An overview of the art courses
Your choices
You can attend a part time class in 'drawing and watercolour', or choose from the variety of one-day and two-day courses available throughout the year at the weekends. Many do both, benefiting from the discipline of a regular class, topped up with longer sessions in specialist areas. At regular intervals there are four -day courses (which can be regarded as 'portfolio courses' if required) to cover the full range of subjects - a day each of drawing, life drawing, portraiture, and watercolour painting. At your request these can be extended or amended to include a particular area of your choice. All the classes are 'drawing' based.

The nature of the art classes
Sessions start with a talk about the subject matter, how to begin, trouble spots to look out for and a clearfix indication of your goal. The atmosphere is friendly, informal and comfortable (the most important ingredient in the creative process - you have to feel 'at home' and relaxed.) Julie's style of teaching is positive and celebrates the good points of every student's work, and develops paths for each individual to improve. Every student is different, and therefore every painting is different too. Your experience will be positive, uplifting and rewarding. As well as exhausting!

Subject matter
I always teach drawing and painting from life, rather than photographic reference (unless specified for a particular course), and the subject is as often as possible seasonal. Subjects are amazingly varied, challenging and always a surprise!

Equipment & class sizes
All artist-quality materials are provided as part of your course as well as delicious lunch, tea. coffee and cake. You don't need to bring any equipment unless specified for a particular course. (The exception here is for the regular weekly term-time courses, where students DO need their own materials. However, I keep this to a modest amount and will provide a materials list at time of booking a place. Tea and coffee is provided during these sessions.) Class sizes are small, and are friendly and relaxed.
